StichLiner 5500 - Saddle-stiching System

The Standard Horizon StitchLiner System

The Standard Horizon StitchLiner will bridge the production gap between existing flat sheet collating / bookletmaking systems and conventional high-volume saddlestitching lines.

Offset or digitally printed flat-sheet signatures are fed from the Standard Horizon SpeedVAC collator to produce true saddlestitched booklets with full bleed trimming, at speeds up to 11,000 two-up booklets per hour. Professionally finished booklets up to 200 pages (50 flat four-page signatures) are fully comparable with booklets produced by traditional saddlestitchers.

The StitchLiner combines rugged industrial construction and legendary Horizon reliability with advanced touch-screen control for automated set-up and higher productivity.

Standard Horizon - StitchLiner 5500 Work Flow

What’s The StitchLiner Production Process / Workflow?

no1.gifAutomated set-up is performed via a user-friendly centralized touch-screen control panel.  Job changeover for the full line is performed in under two minutes.  After the operator inputs the job information, the system calculates and sets the position for size and register, scoring and folding, stitcher heads & clinchers, stitch wire length, the gap of the spine-pressing rollers, and positioning for head, foot and face trimming knives.

no2.gifSheets are fed and collated from the SpeedVAC towers.  Up to six towers can be used.  A set of up to 10 sheets advances through the ST-40 to the AFC-30 accumulate and register module, where it is jogged and advanced through scoring and creasing rollers for tight, accurate folds.  The folded signatures are dropped onto a saddle in the SPF-30, and remaining sub-sets (if any) are delivered on top.  Note: Sub-set count affects production speed; booklet thickness may limit two-up production.
Stichliner Workflow 2
no3.gifWhen all sub-sets have been assembled and registered, the saddle conveys the complete block to the stitching area.  After stitching, an advanced error detection system automatically rejects any errored booklets.  The booklet is then conveyed through a set of steel spine-pressing rollers in the HTS-30 Trimmer, where it is first face trimmed, then advanced for head and foot  trimming.  If the system is outfitted with optional center-cut knives for two-up production, this occurs on the same stroke as the side trimming.

no4.gifProfessionally finished one-up or two-up three-side trimmed booklets are presented to the exit conveyor, which can also be equipped with an optional batch kicker.
